All your admission and administration questions. Will my Certificate, Diploma or Masters be as good as an on campus Certificate, Diploma or Masters? Our online programmes offer the same high standards of teaching and assessment as their campus-based equivalents – and they lead to the same qualifications, awarded by the University of Edinburgh. If I study online, will my degree certificate indicate that my degree was completed via distance learning? Your degree certificate will look exactly the same as the degree certificates received by those who have completed their study on campus in Edinburgh. Do I have to be a doctor to apply for this programme? This programme is focused on developing knowledge and skills that are relevant to early postgraduate assessments for doctors wishing to pursue a career in a medical specialty. However, we have accommodated applications from individuals with other backgrounds (e.g. advanced nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants) who were enthusiastic and motivated to participate. Any applicant with a non-medical background should be fully aware of the primary objectives of the programme and must have a good understanding of relevant medical sciences (e.g. physiology, pharmacology) and day-to-day experience if patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions. Will I have to demonstrate proficiency in English if my primary degree was delivered in English? The requirements on English language proficiency are set by the University and are described in detail on its pages for international applicants. Who can act as my referee? We prefer applicants to provide academic references in your application, ideally from someone involved in your undergraduate or postgraduate study, however we are aware that this is not always possible. If an applicant is unable to obtain an academic reference, we will accept a professional one, however your referee must be able to comment on your academic ability and potential suitability for postgraduate study. All references must be submitted from a work email (i.e. @ed.ac.uk, etc.) What are the costs of each programme? This online distance learning programme has standard University of Edinburgh tuition fees. Note that fees are subject to an annual increase so the amount per course will rise as you study each year of the programme. For further information and the current University Fees Table please see: Fees information Is it possible to pay the fees in instalments? Yes, but full-payment must be met by end of the following March after September entry. Please follow this link for full information regarding instalment payments: Paying by Direct Debit instalments Is there an option to take a break from the programme if necessary? All matriculated students of Edinburgh University can apply for an "Interruption of Studies", which is approved if the reason for doing so is deemed appropriate, thus allowing students to defer studies for up to 24 months.
