Programme structure

The full Internal Medicine programme is a part-time 3-year Online Masters. However, the programme is flexible and allows you to exit after each consecutive year for qualifications at Certificate, Diploma and Master’s. Within each year you will have options to choose what you study and how you study. The programme is split into 10- or 20-credit core modules and 10-credit elective modules. Each year of your programme will contribute 60-credits towards your awards.

Year 1

60-credits: Certificate requires 60-credits in total

Core courses combined with optional courses contribute to the 60-credits required for completion of year 1. Within year 1 we offer Science of Medicine (IMED11003) which is specifically designed to prepare students to take the MRCP exams or similar certifications.

Year 2

60-credits: Diploma requires 120-credits gained from year 1 and 2 credits

Year 2 has two core courses but there is a wider selection of electives available. The electives include courses from the MSc Internal Medicine programme and other programmes at the University of Edinburgh including both MSc Pain Management and MSc Surgical Sciences.

Year 3

60-credits: Masters requires in total 180-credits gained from year 1, 2 and 3

Year 3 has two different options for study; taught or dissertation. The options allow students to either develop as a researcher or widen their knowledge in the field.

  • Dissertation - you will undertake a research project that will be the basis of your Masters dissertation for 60-credits

Or

  • Taught - A fully taught Year 3, containing both core courses and electives for 60-credits.
