Edinburgh Imaging's powerful MR PET scanner has arrived. It is the first of its kind in Scotland, & one of just a few in the UK. Image MR-PET arrives The ten tonne, Magnetic Resonance Positron Emission Tomography unit, or MR PET scanner, arrived at Edinburgh University's Bioquarter Campus at the RIE, last weekend. Skllful coordination between University of Edinburgh staff, ADP, Robertson Construction, Curtins, DSSR as well as Faithful & Gould, ensured safe delivery. The MR PET scanner arrived on a semi-trailer & was manoeuvred into its new, purpose-built, copper-lined lab in the Clinical Research Imaging Centre (CRIC) via a 20 tonne forklift along with a team of people. The copper shielding is to ensure the operation of the MR PET unit does not affect other areas of the research centre. MR PET combines two medical scanning procedures - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) & Positron Emission Tomography (PET) - into one piece of equipment. We are all very much looking forward to it being installed and ready for use, by Autumn 2016. Our thanks go to all those involved, & especially David Coll from the Roberston Group for sharing these videos: Ensuring there is a clear run! Gently, gently into place! Publication date 04 Jul, 2016
