The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) Imaging Scientist award aims to increase interactions between biologists and imaging technology experts. PET is Wonderful (PiW) - Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) logo BackgroundChan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) Imaging Scientist awardThe primary goal of the CZI Imaging Scientist program is to increase interactions between biologists and imaging technology experts. This can be achieved by enabling collaborative work between imaging scientists and experimental biologists as well as development and dissemination of imaging training resources and courses. The award to Dr Adriana Tavares, University of EdinburghDr Adriana Tavares is a Senior Research Fellow in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging and Head of the Preclinical PET Facility at the University of Edinburgh. Her group works on developing new PET biomarkers of human disease as well as new methods of analysis of complex PET images. She has over 70 peer reviewed publications and routinely shares her research findings at local, national and international events.Dr Tavares has been a member of the molecular imaging committee of the Scottish Imaging Network: A Platform for Scientific Excellent (SINAPSE) since 2014 and was recently invited to co-lead the preclinical sub-group of the recently formed UK PET Network. She is the founder of the PET is Wonderful meetings, focused on enhancing vitality and promoting visibility of the PET research ongoing in Edinburgh, the UK and the world. In this CZI award titled “Kinetic Modelling and Analysis of Total-Body PET Imaging Datasets”, Dr Tavares proposes to develop new methods for analysis of complex PET images to derive a whole-body “molecular fingerprint” unique to each individual. She will also develop teaching opportunities to teach the next generation of imaging biologists what PET techniques are and how to use them to support their research. The award is for up to 5 years starting on the 1st October 2022. PET is Wonderful-CZI scholarship (a “hands-on” summer scholarship) A fully funded summer scholarship of 12 weeks long to be competitively awarded annually to one student, technician or post-doctoral researcher within 10 years of their PhD award (i.e. early career researcher) looking to learn more about in vivo PET imaging techniques.Any researcher in the world can apply to the “PET is Wonderful-CZI scholarship.” A panel of PET experts will assess proposals and the successful applicant will be invited to receive “hands-on” training in the core PET imaging facility in Edinburgh. Each successful researcher candidate may be the recipient of a single award only, up to a maximum value of $8,100 (funds will be paid by the University of Edinburgh in GBP and conversion rates apply at the time of award). The application deadline has been extended to 31st January 2025! Download the application form from the link below Document CZI PET is Wonderful Scholarship Application Form (180.5 KB / DOCX) Online teaching materials - free and supported by Edinburgh Imaging Academy & PET is Wonderful network With the help of the Edinburgh Imaging Academy, this CZI award curates a collection PET technology lectures.More information on the teaching materials here.Register for access to online teaching materials here (links will be activated October 2022).Login to review teaching materials here (links will be activated October 2022). Online workshops In 2023/2024 and 2025/2026, we will organise two full-day online training events. These events will cover theoretical principles of molecular imaging, latest developments in molecular imaging and will also disseminate training opportunities available for biologists looking to learn more about imaging.Stay tuned for more information! Personalized lectures on PET imaging world-wide Dr Tavares will deliver on-site lectures on PET and molecular imaging at one European institution per year and one US institution each two years. The purpose of these lectures is to foster active discussion, networking and knowledge exchange on molecular imaging, and in particular PET imaging, among the community.Invitations to speak at different sites are welcome. For further information, please contact Dr Tavares.
