MRI Research Radiographer Vacancy

This is an exciting opportunity for a Radiographer looking to be actively involved in MRI research imaging projects. The role will be neuro-focused but could include any other areas of research scanning; areas of interest will depend on research projects supported within the facility (studies could be cardiology, oncology, orthopaedic, hepatology + others alongside the neuro scanning e.g. in stroke, neurovascular disorders, functional MRI). The post holder will be part of the research team on specific studies so will have input to the practical aspects of study set up and ongoing management of the work. Image trial data management and image analysis are also potential areas of study support work for this role.

MRI scanning of research subjects and support of research scanning projects will be central to this role; however there will be significant non-scanning responsibilities. The post holder will act as part of the core team within the imaging research facility; taking on responsibilities with other centre activities (NHS support work, private patient scanning, design and delivery of training courses e.g. online MSc modules and other activities). Some flexibility is required as it is likely that staff will work between research sites at the University of Edinburgh. Also, due to the nature of research projects there may be a need to occasionally work flexible patterns to support “out of hours” scanning.

The post will be based in the Brain Research Imaging Centre (BRIC), currently in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh but will also involve some research work at the Chancellor’s Buildings, Little France. BRIC (www.bric.ed.ac.uk) has been at the forefront of research imaging since opening in 1998 and has completed over 20,000 research scans.

This is an exciting time for research imaging in Edinburgh; integration with other research imaging facilities e.g. the multimodality CRIC (www.cric.ed.ac.uk), provision of a second BRIC scanner and development of animal imaging at the Vet school means imaging research is expanding rapidly. Imaging research is being integrated via Edinburgh Imaging, a virtual hub of expertise on medical imaging, pre-clinical imaging, neuroimaging for research, microscopy and imaging science education. http://www.ed.ac.uk/schools-departments/clinical-sciences/edinburgh-imaging/home
