The John West Award is in honour of John West, a renowned respiratory physiologist involved in many ground-breaking research, including expeditions to Mount Everest with Sir Edmund Hilary, and the research program of NASA which involved effects on pulmonary physiology in space.
The award is presented by the John West Award committee of the International Workshop for Pulmonary Functional Imaging (IWPFI), and we are delighted that Professor Edwin van Beek, SINAPSE Chair of Clinical Radiology, has been recognised for his work in this field.
Professor van Beek will receive this award at the upcoming International Workshop on Pulmonary Functional Imaging, held in Hannover, Germany.
We asked Professor Edwin van Beek his thoughts on receiving this award.
“Pulmonary functional imaging has been a long-held passion of mine, with a truly multidisciplinary approach and using a wide array of imaging methods. It is something that has run like a thread through my career.
The recognition by my international peers is both humbling and a great honour, and I look forward to accepting the award in September."
