At Edinburgh Imaging, we celebrate World Radiography Day, for the hard work & resilience of our radiographers at our facilities, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Image Edinburgh Imaging Facility RIE, Magnetic Resonance (MR) scanner We have many radiographers working at our Edinburgh Imaging Facility RIE & Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI. Because of them, our facilities run well & efficiently. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic our radiographers adjusted nimbly to new pressures & have emerged with a leaner operating model, delivering a greater number of scans than before the COVID-19 era. Our Edinburgh Imaging Radiography teams at QMRI & RIE were awarded the runner up prize for the CMVM ‘Team excellence’ award, as recognition for their resilience throughout the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting the NHS to maintain clinical services & the return of research activity. Our radiographers meet & scan a variety of the public - volunteers & patients who are apart of imaging research projects, as well as NHS patients. Our radiographers play a vital role in welcoming patients & study volunteers to our facilities & putting them at ease so that scans can be carried out in an informed & relaxed manner. Our radiographers are the cornerstones of our facilities. For World Radiography Day, we asked our radiographers at our Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI & Edinburgh Imaging Facility RIE, what they enjoy most about being a radiographer & what it’s like to work at the Edinburgh Imaging facilities. Image Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI, Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scanner “I love radiography, the interesting technology & techniques to see inside the body & learning it's physiology, anatomy & pathologies. Here at the EIF QMRI, this can be played out in front of your eyes within the world of PET. There are many exceptional points to mention about being a radiographer, too numerous to describe. But, personally I found one aspect of visualising the body heal its self after it has under gone lifesaving interventions using novel radio tracers is fascinating. I look forward to the next new innovative advances within radiography with great enthusiasm” “The thing I enjoy most about being a radiographer is that no two days are the same, because no two patients are the same. Working at the Edinburgh Imaging Facility is diverse & ever changing & we have a vast array of patients & participants that we scan on a day-to day basis. Scanning all age ranges from neonates to the elderly, healthy volunteers, & a variety of clinical conditions keeps us moving forward in answering important clinical research questions as well developing our own individual skills as radiographers” Online education for MR trained radiographers The Edinburgh Imaging Academy also offers online education for MR trained radiographers - the IOFB Review course. The IOFB Review course is designed to enable MR radiographers to establish a programme & protocols for radiographer review of orbital radiographs for metallic intra-orbital foreign bodies (IOFBs); also to develop competency in metallic IOFB identification on orbital radiographs. The IOFB Review course is endorsed by the Irish Institute of Radiography & Radiation Therapy.
