Isla Mitchell, Research Radiographer at the Edinburgh Imaging Facility RIE has received funding from the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine Public Engagement with Research Seed Fund, to develop public engagement ideas in relation to the brain imaging databases.

The grant will fund a more creative way of delivering information to patients who attend the imaging research facilities.

This will allow our team to share with patients & volunteers, ‘what happens to imaging in research studies’, as well as inform them that they can donate their brain scan to research.

This collection of data allows the team at our facilities to gather resources for the databases which then facilitates high quality research, for example; developing image analysis methods, etc.

We asked Isla how she felt regarding receiving her grant funding.

“I am really excited & very grateful to have been awarded the funding for this public engagement project, especially in such a difficult financial climate due to the pandemic.

I am keen to develop the ways in which we communicate with the patients that visit our facility & hope to continue to capture the interest of a large patient group to ensuring we can continue to deliver high quality research.”
