Congratulations to Professor Marc Dweck who has been appointed to ‘Professor of Clinical Cardiology', at the University of Edinburgh. Image Professor Marc Dweck Professor Dweck's research has focused on the use of multi-modality imaging (echocardiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance & positron emission tomography) to better understand a range of cardiovascular conditions, including atherosclerosis, aortic stenosis, cardiomyopathy & most recently COVID-19. He has published more than 230 manuscripts (H-index 42) & is the recipient of numerous scientific awards (e.g. Michael Davies Early Career Award, British Cardiovascular Society; Sir Jules Thorn Award for Biomedical Research; British Heart Foundation Outstanding Investigator Award). Professor Dweck is the Chief Investigator of two ongoing randomised controlled trials investigating novel therapeutic strategies in aortic stenosis (SALTIRE 2 NCT02132026 & EVOLVED NCT03094143) & an investigator on the SCOTHEART, SCOTHEART 2 & PREFFIR trials in coronary atherosclerosis. We asked Marc how he felt about his newly appointed professorship. "I am absolutely delighted to become a Professor at the University of Edinburgh. It feels like a long journey since my first day as a medical student in the Anatomy lecture theatre at the old medical school here. Along the way I have been very fortunate to learn from some truly outstanding people within the University & in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, as well as friends & collaborators around the world. I am also particularly lucky to have had access to a wide range of cutting-edge imaging technologies that have allowed me to investigate the clinical questions I find most interesting, with the best suited & most sophisticated equipment available. I am really looking forward to my inaugural lecture, perhaps back in the anatomy lecture theatre, as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic allows ." As of yet there is no scheduled date for Prof Marc Dweck's inaugural lecture.
