Roberto Duarte Coello has a strong interest in the application of signal / image processing & optimisation tools to medical imaging.

He comes to us following his James Watt scholarship funded PhD at Heriot-Watt University, in the field of "Manifold Compressive Sensing applied to Quantitative MRI."

Roberto obtained his bachelor’s degree in 2012 in Mechatronics Engineering, at the Autonomous University of Yucatan, where he ranked 2nd out of 23 students. He presented his research from his degree programme at the “Information & Communication Technologies & Applications 2012” conference in Orlando, Florida.

After this degree, Roberto worked at a private university in Mexico & at a technology company. At the same time, Roberto continued his research with his bachelor's supervisor, presenting this work at the “International Geoscience & Remote Sensing Symposium 2014” in Quebec City, Canada.

In 2014, the Mexican government awarded Roberto a full scholarship for further study. The Erasmus Mundus Master in Computer Vision & Robotics (VIBOT) took on Roberto, who completed his MSc project in “A Compressive Sensing Approach to Quantitative MRI” under the supervision of Professor Yves Wiaux.

Roberto continued with Professor Yves Wiaux for his PhD, entitled "Greedy Techniques for Magnetic Resonance Fingerprinting."

We look forward to Roberto applying his expertise to the Sainsbury / Weston funded project: PVS computational methods.
