BRAINS imagebank

The Brain Images of Normal Subjects (BRAINS) imagebank is a searchable, living database of images & clinical information across the human lifespan.

BRIANS is an anonymised collection of images & associated clinical data collected from 'normal' individuals participating in research. It includes several MR & structural sequences (e.g. T1, T2, T2* & FLAIR) available in DICOM.

Find out more about the BRAINS imagebank, here.

Cerebrovascular Diseases Image Databank

The Database contains brain magnetic resonance & computed tomographic imaging data from patients with cerebrovascular diseases.

The patients with cerebrovascular diseases participated in a range of individual specific research projects & clinical trials on stroke, dementia or other aspects of cerebrovascular disease, or attended for brain imaging as part of routine clinical care & agreed to donate their imaging to the Database, from 1998 onwards.

Find out more about the Cerebrovascular diseases image databank, here.

Digital brain atlases for assessing markers of cerebral small vessel disease

These datasets include the reference brain template where atlases have been developed, & the brain atlases for assessing different markers of cerebral small vessel disease & neurodegeneration.

The two datasets included are:

  • Regional brain atlas for assessment of enlarged perivascular spaces
  • Regional brain atlas for assessment of white matter hyperintensities

Find out more about the Digital brain atlases for assessing markers of cerebral small vessel disease, here.

Hippocampal Manual Segmentation

Manual delineation of hippocampus in community-dwelling non-demented adults.

Find out more about the Hippocampal Manual Segmentation dataset, here.

Human Voice Areas

Spatial organisation & inter-individual variability in temporal & extra-temporal cortices.

Find out more about the Human voice areas, here.

MRI Variability in a Rat Model of Stroke

Measuring infarct size on multicentre MRI. This dataset contains T2-weighted MRI scans of 21 different Sprague-Dawley rats that were subjected to permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion, as part of a study assessing the influence of gender in the progression of ischaemic injury.

Find out more about the MRI variability in a rat model of stroke, here.

Test-retest fMRI Dataset

A test-retest fMRI dataset for motor, language & spatial attention functions

A test-retest dataset was acquired to validate fMRI tasks used in pre-surgical planning.

Find out more about Test-retest fMRI Dataset, here.

Post-mortem brain analyses of the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936

Extending lifetime cognitive & brain phenotyping to the level of the synapse.

Find out more about the Post-mortem brain analyses of the Lothian Birth Cohort 1936, here.

Reference Segmentations of White Matter Hyperintensities

Structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-derived data from 20 participants enrolled in the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) project.

Find out more about the Reference Segmentations of White Matter Hyperintensities, here.

White matter hyperintensities assessment methods

Summarises all the white matter hyperintensities (WMH) volume measurement methods used in different studies up to October 2014.

Find out more about the White matter hyperintensities assessment methods, here.
