Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, functional magnetic resonance & diffusion tensor imaging in the research of obsessive-compulsive disorder: a literature review Abstract: The key features of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are obsessions (repetitive and intrusive thought which cause anxiety) and compulsions (acts which intend to improve this anxiety). The most accepted neurobiological model for this disorder is the orbitofrontal-striato-thalamocortical. Serotonin and glutamate are believed to play a role in its physiopathology. A bibliographic search for new MRI-based techniques in OCD research was performed, and relevant papers selected. Main outcomes of the available literature and relationships of different findings are exposed.
